A tribute to Heather

10

THIS week started with a thanksgiving service for one of the founding members of The Well, Heather Hadley.

Heather had planned the service and I was asked to do a tribute as part of it.

Heather came on our original training course and as a founding member started out as a receptionist, a role she had the ideal qualities for – love, compassion and a gathering heart.

She was a terrific Prayer Warrior and prayed faithfully for The Well and for me personally.

One of my fondest memories of Heather was on the Maid of Mist boat at Niagara Falls in the early days of The Well. A number of us had gone to a healing conference at Toronto Airport Church, and as part of our leisure time had gone to see the falls.

We were all on the boat wearing the essential bright blue waterproof capes and as everyone else retreated from the incredible spray we went to the front and shouted as loud as possible, ‘More Lord!’.

That was the cry of her heart – and of all our hearts – that we just wanted more of God.

After this Heather just collapsed with a fit of Holy giggles which made us all laugh!

She will be greatly missed but Monday’s service was a really great celebration of her life.

The rest of this week has been a time of reading and preparation for me ahead of our Quiet Days and then the retreat I am leading at Lee Abbey.

On Wednesday I went for a Quiet Day of my own and one of the things I found myself pondering was how the year 2013 as a number just didn’t seem to have the same buzz about it as 2012 did.

Now that may be because of all the build-up to 2012 and then the absolutely fantastic time the Olympics and other events proved to be – but then I saw 2013 in a new light.

I saw the number one as being for our One God, El Shaddai, the mighty one, the protector - and then the three reminded me our Almighty God is also three in one, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

So now I’m very excited about 2013. I don’t know what’s going to happen but He knows about it all!

To close, I’d like to share a verse I know Heather prayed for us all but which also describes her life.

It’s Romans 15: 13: ‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit’.
